Why would a person have to install PHP onto their computer?
Question by ampersand1: Why would a person have to install PHP onto their computer?
I am trying to create a web accessible database using PHP, PHPmyAdmin and MySQL. I have my database hosted on the web. Some of the tutorials I’ve found say to install PHP onto my computer. Why do I need to do that? Isn’t PHP just a scripting language?

Go here and download the one you need http://us2.php.net/downloads.php but this is only if you were running a server at home. Most of the turorial want you to install it at home as a testing server. If that is the route you want to take it’s not that difficult depending on the system you have, Mac OS X already has apache on it, as do most linux distro’s. I have 2 Mac’s running apache here at home both with php, mysql. I also have a Linux box running the same. I use these for web developement testing as well as local network servers/streamers.
PHP is a scripting language but the server has to know how to handle it. In Apache you need the modules to run PHP and MySql which is why the tuts are saying to install it. Woring directly on your external server you just need to make sure they offer these services, some of the lower cost hosting packages don’t or at least have little database storage available.

How accurate and thorough are w3schools tutorials?
Question by Cheyenne: How accurate and thorough are w3schools tutorials?
I’ve taken an interest in computer programming but don’t have the time to take formal classes, or the money to spend on books.
I’ve heard that w3schools.com is good for the basics, but how accurate and thorough is it on more advanced languages like ASP and PHP? I think it’s a good place to start, but is it just as good as formal classes any of you have taken?
Any help from experienced programmers or someone knowledgeable would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Understanding Java
Understanding Java
Java is defined as a programming language that is able to run on many different computers, and mobile phones. It is not to be confused with JavaScript, which is a a scripting language used by web browsers.
Java can be an invaluable part of your computer’s programming. It allows the user to chat with other online users worldwide, play online games, and view images in 3-d, for example. Java is considered to be versatile, safe, and efficient. More than 6.5 million people use Java today.
Java provides power to more than 4.5 billion devices. Examples of these include: Over 800 million personal computers, 3.5 billion smart cards, and even lottery devices and parking payment systems.
There are several types of Java programs. The Applet is one that can be placed online, the application which is unable to go online but only run on the computer, the servlet which runs on a server and aids in the display of web pages, and, the swing application which can look graphical or like an application.
Many software developers have chosen Java as their programming language. Some reasons for this include: They are able to write software on a certain platform and then run it on any other platform, the ability to write applications for cell phones, remote processors, and other devices, create programs to run with web browsers and services, and, finally, to create server-side applications for forums, stores, and polls.
There are several ways to understand and learn more about Java. The web is ideal, but there are also other ways to understand this program. One is to take a course at a college or university, use the Java tutorial, read Java newsletters, or sign up for web instructor courses.
With the many opportunities Java provides in today’s technology, understanding and starting Java can start with the click of a button.
Everything from Flash to MySQL and even the ever present Java can all be integrated to work with PHP. PHP is also flexible in that it can be easily integrated with almost any web-related software package of note.
Help Others, Get help from others – get networked
Help Others, Get help from others – get networked
You do not need to join face book or LinkedIn to get networked ot get connected. You do not necessarily need to join networking conferences. There are, in fact, two very simple rules of networking. The first basic rules of networking are – help those who are seeking help.
Look at your office, there may be people who may need some tutorial lessons from you. If you are a computer expert, many people need your help in getting their computer fixed. If you know Spanish in addition to English, many people may like to learn a bit of Spanish from you. If know Yoga, may people may like to learn Yoga from. Offer your help wherever you can.
How do you offer help to other persons. Where can you offer help in the areas of your expertise. Does their exist a platform that allows you to know who is seeking help in the area of your expertise. The answer is yes. EZdia is such a platform. At ezdia you can search for the term relevant to the areas of your expertise. Ezdia give you a list of search results. This search result is similar to the Google’s search result. There is no magic in it. There is nothing new to it. In fact eZdia uses Google’ API to show you the results in the second half of the search result. However, there is a subtle difference. And if you are sensitive enough, you will appreciate that difference. And the difference is that – next to each search result there are two icons – Get Experts and Get Explorer.
So who are the “Explorers”? Explorers’ are precisely the persons looking for some help for that particular search result. I hope now you understand how you can find someone whom you can help in the areas of expertise. Just click on the get explorer button. Add the person in your connection and offer your humble request to help him. If they are online and available on ezdia you can offer your help using chat at ezdia.
And the second basic rule of networking is – seek help from others. When you need help, do not hesitate to ask for help. Many people are more than happy to offer help if you need it. Seek others guidance and help. Do not be egoistic – that you can solve all your problems yourself. Of course, you can solve your entire problem yourself if you devote enough time. You may solve your problem but you may lose two things – you may lose the time to earn the skill. But this is not the real loss. The real loss is you lose an opportunity to network with other people by not seeking their help.
As you may have guessed the “Get Expert” button precisely does this function. When you need help on a particular topic – go to eZdia and search for the topic. Next to each search result is a “Get Expert” button. Click on that button. Seek the experts help. Get connected and get your problem solved. And you not only solve your problem – you secure a relationship. And you build a trust.
You can also be one of those whose advice is sought by persons in the areas of your expertise. To be able to do that you may like to understand the concept of Knowledge bucket. To know more visit:- http://www.ezdia.com
